Shark Diving, New Zealand

If you think about New Zealand, shark diving is probably not the first thought, which comes to you.

But there are actually some great shark diving in New Zealand.

The most common seen shark species are Blue Sharks and Marko Sharks, but some locations (see more below) have also Great White Sharks.

So if you are ready for a shark dive, New Zealand could be an option.

Great White Shark Diving, Chatham Islands

If you want to scuba dive with the Great White Sharks in New Zealand, you can do it near Chatham Islands – a New Zealand territory 800 kilometers east of southern New Zealand.

As you probably can figure out this is not a normal scuba diving boat trip. Instead you will fly from Christchurch (or Wellington or Auckland) to the Chatham Islands.

Here you will spent the days on the shark scuba diving vessel observing the Great White Shark in its natural habitat and go underwater in a specially constructed shark cage. In the night you will be sleeping at “Maipito Road” hotel – so this is not the usual live-aboard scuba dive trip.

Everyone can join the shark scuba diving tour as long as they are at least 18 years old and in normal physical health.

The price for the one week trip (including four days out on the vessel) is NZD $3,850 (about US $2,500). So this is certainly not a normal shark scuba dive – but you will also get so much more for you money.

First of all the airfare from Christchurch is included. The same is the accommodation, the meals and the transportation for the whole week. And finally you get four amazing days scuba diving with sharks.

So if you look at it this way, it is not a shark dive – it is a shark scuba diving vacation.

You can book the shark scuba diving expedition with the well-recommended agency “Total Experience NZ”. The company recommends that you book 90 days in advance.
